Phantasy Star Universe - It's getting closer...

Ragol.co.uk Forumer 'the_importer' has found an Advertisement for Phantasy Star Universe online on the SEGA of Japan website!

SEGA focused on PSU!The advertisement features a nice young lady who's crying as a planet is being destroyed in the background. Is there anyone who can save the Universe from being destroyed? Maybe it's you?

Of course it's only a teaser, and an interesting choice of teaser, even if some may say it is a bit... crappy! It's only meant to raise interest at this stage as Japanese game retailers are most probabily taking pre-orders for the title now, which is released in just over a months time, on 31st August 2006! That's 34 days!

Party at the Seaside, or Resting at the Beach? Gamecube Server Maintenance!
(Lee_yoshi - July 28 2006 - 12:21 PM) - Comments (3)
Episode1&2

There will be server maintenance on the Nintendo Gamecube Phantasy Star Online servers during August 1st 2006 between the times of 14:00 & 17:00 (Japanese Time).

During this time please do not attempt to connect to the servers as if maintenance is happening on your corresponding servers at that time then you will be automatically disconnected after connecting. If you happen to be playing during these times please disconnect otherwise at the time when maintenance starts you will be disconnected from your game no matter what! You are given 10 minutes warning via. constant on-screen messages counting down until the time the upgrades start. This affects all players of the following Nintendo Gamecube games:

  • Phantasy Star Online, Episodes I & II
  • Phantasy Star Online, Episodes I & II Plus
  • Phantasy Star Online, Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution

Please reconnect after these times where service continues as normal. Being added is the very popular 'End of Summertime' quest - Resting At The Beach!

Shining Brightly in the Sky!

Take yourself and upto three of your friends down to the beach and take some time out from battling all of those nasty ol' enemies! However, that's not to say they won't appear, as long as you keep your lips sealed!

BOOM!

Upon mentioning certain words while down at the beach, be sure to watch out for special events! Why not take the time to see what you can trigger down at Episode II's seaside! Or, if you can't be bothered and just want to use it to see all the pretty fireworks and... everything else, be sure to check out the Hunters Gazette from 8th August 2004, which contains almost every single trigger word there is for this special quest!

This classic quest and Gamecube favourite is available online straight after Server Maintenance on 1st August until 29th August 2006 and is playable for between 1 & 4 players, available through the Episode II Hunters Guild 'Events' category. There are no updates for Episode III at this time.

Flippin' Japanese!

Sonic Team of Japan have got Blue Bursting goodness coming outta their ears, showing everyone out there in the land of the rising sun that it's not going to be completely dominated by Phantasy Star Universe when it's released over there in just 34 days! Yes, that's 34 days! Updated with their official Japanese PSO: BB website recently includes both a '2nd Symbol Chat Competition' and 'PSO Illustration Competition' to celebrate PSO: BB's 2nd Thanksgiving!

Your Piccie Here! The illustration contest i can tell you, means that 3 fine artists that win the prize of 'Excellent Work' and 2 runners-up that win the prize of 'Not Quite as Excellent Work' will get their artwork up on display in the Blue Burst lobbies just as Sonic Team did with Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution on the Nintendo Gamecube in the PSO Illustration Olympics! (See right, click to enlarge!). There's also 17 other prizes up for grabs in that competition alone.

SEGA of Japan are also really pushing their 'SEGA Net Cafe' campaign whereby players can waltz into participating internet cafe's and play games all days, Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst being one of them. A special 'Net Cafe' quest is now available for players entitled 'Gallons Plan':

  • Gallons Plan
    • Episode I

Someone's got some good's for Gallon, but they've been trapped in the forest! Go and clear the route in thr forest and claim the goods, and them drop them back off to Gallon himself, and retrieve a 'Photon Ticket'!

When you've finished the quest, and had a word with Gallon, speak with this chap (Right) who should seem fairly familiar, and he'll hand you that all important 'Photon Ticket'! When Server Maintenance has finished on 1st August 2006, use the ticket to claim one of 2 prizes, one of which is ALL NEW!

Of course, those of you who are quite hardcore in news, will remember the quest first made it's appearance as a 'SEGA Net Cafe' PSO: BB quest back in April of this year, when only the treasure was available as a prize, but now, as this image shows, you can either pick up the treasure, or the oversized novelty lollipop! Wooooooooo!

Blue Burst - English News!!

"Those pesky English players will never get they're hands on our Black Paper, BWAHAHAHA!"Sonic Team will be updating the English version of Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst this thursday during Server Maintenance.

Appearing after this time will be all new Episode IV quests 'A Dangerous Deal with Black Paper' and 'Pioneer Spirits'.

Although everyone is quite aware of the fact that we've had to wait between 8 and 10 months for both quests to be transferred over from the Japanese version of Blue Burst, the end to the waiting will no doubt bring a tear to hunters eyes as they appear online for everyone to play on Thursday!

Both quests are playable only for 1 Player and are available through the Episode IV Hunters Guild when 'Single Player' mode is selected at the game production stage.

Kefka gets the beers this time for spotting this news and posting it up in our forums! But then what would you expect from a moderator on the Sonic Team Blue Burst boards eh?

Phantasy Star Universe!

The new look website! Click to EnlargeSonic Team of Japan have redone their Phantasy Star Universe website once again! The website takes on a new, non-flash theme and contains a bit more detailed information regarding every area of the game there is, including new images which we've gone to the trouble of producing here for you:

  • Game Features
    • Nano Beast Formation

    • Lobbies

The above 4 images here show off the various lobbies within planets of the Gurhal system. Here you can travel to other lobbies within the Phantasy Star Universe online servers, or travel to different planets altogether. Staying right where you are? Then why not try a spot of shopping, or various other activities which can also be undertaken here!

    • The Relay Lobby

These two above images represent the 'Relay Lobby' - I.e. The Lobby all players can gather within once a Mission has begun. Here they can recollect mission information, aswell as use this spot to chat with others in your party and exchange weapons, etc.

    • Mission Complete Travelling

The two images above represent the end of a mission! When a mission is complete, you are aparently taken to a place of peace and tranquility to rest a while and take in the great scenery of the various planets in the Gurhal system.

    • My Room

These four above placed images show off the 'My Room' feature of the game. Think of it as a bit of an Animal Crossing add-on! Add cool new accessories to your room through purchasing items in the shopping centres to really personalise PSU just the way you like it! Here you can also just relax and chill out, should the busy lobbies get too much for you! But that's not all, your room allows you to change clothes/character appearance, trade through your Partner Machinery (MAG) with other players and more! Someone you want to trade with not online? No problem! Visit their room when they aren't there, and leave it there for them!

    • Game Communication
      • Cut-In Chat & Symbol Chat Evolution

The two images above are taken from the online 'Network' mode of which Symbol Chat has been improved greatly.

"It has been hugely popular up until this point, where the feature known as Symbol Chat has evolved greatly for Phantasy Star Universe users"

Aswell as being able to 'Cut-in' (I.e. To smack your face widely on the screen of everyones game to say something important - See above), you can also shape the speech bubbles to fit the emotion of what you wish to say to add to your voice, maybe in the tone as something along the lines of Episode III?

      • Party Chat, Simple Mail & Guild Cards

Chatting with your friends could also not be any easier with Universe, as Sonic Team introduce the new 'Party Chat' feature, which simply lets you chat within a certain group of your friends, as Sonic Team realise being in a crowded lobby can mean your conversation getting easily lost amongst everyone elses! Carrying on from PSO also come the 'Simple Mail' & 'Guild Card' features, so you can never lose touch with your bestest buddies!

Sonic Team have also announced on the website that the soundtrack to Phantasy Star Universe will be produced in two different CD Album editions. One entitled 'Save This World', to be made available through all good retailers, is the original score of the game, being sold at 2,500Yen (£11.60) on the 2 week anniversary of the game's day of Japanese release (13th September 2006).

The second edition is to be made available only through SEGA Link (And SEGA subsidaries) and is a 3 CD Album set containing every bit of musical greatness there is in the game, to be sold at 3,800Yen (£17.60) as the original soundtrack to the title. Entitled 'For Brighter Day', this version will be released about a month after 'Save This World'.

As the website now uses image and text instead of flash, you can read most of the official website in English (Or close too anyways) by clicking here, or visit the website the way it was meant to be seen at http://phantasystaruniverse.com. Otherwise if you don't want to leave the comforting smell that Ragol.co.uk delivers to you, why not check out or super long article on PSU by clicking here!

Phantasy Star Universe is confirmed as being released in the land of the rising sun on August 31st 2006, with both European & American dates still TBC Autumn/Winter 2006.

Site Update

It's time again for a change of poll i think. Before we check out the new question, let's go over what you had to say regarding the old question:

  • What will you be getting Phantasy Star Universe for now?
    • I'm a Sony man - It's PS2 for me!
      20.4% (145 Votes)
    • I love my PC, so it'd be wrong not to get PSU for it!
      32.8% (233 Votes)
    • Xbox360?! ZOMG! It's mine!
      19.8% (141 Votes)
    • *Sigh* Sadly PSU is not on anything for me...
      9.7% (69 Votes)
    • I'm more then happy where i am now, and PSO is where i'm staying!
      17.1% (122 Votes)
      • 710 Total Votes

It appears that the majority of you all will be making a purchase of Phantasy Star Universe for your PC when it's released, while the rest of you are split down the middle over what you'll be buying it for, console wise. PlayStation2? Xbox360? With just 4 votes difference, PS2 is the most popular, but Sonic Team's decision to release PSU for Xbox360 was obviously a good one!

At almost the same rate, 17% of you are very happy where you are and are staying in the fantastic world of Phantasy Star Online, god bless you folks! Sadly though, just under 10% of you are going to have to miss out altogether. :(

Summer is most certainly here and the sun couldn't pop out any further if it tried! Have you chosen to make the most of it before it quickly pops back in, or are you staying loyal to your Phantasy Star Online? That's what we're trying to find out from you great Ragol.co.uk viewers out there this time around in our poll - Vote Now!

International Blue Burstin'!

Maximum Attack 4 - Across the Board!

Yesterday, Sonic Team of Japan kicked off their 2 year anniversary celebrations for the launch of Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst by kicking off Maximum Attack 4!

As the banner above states, the event takes place over 4 weeks between 11th July (Yesterday) and 22nd August. What players have to do is simply take themselves into the Maximum Attack zones in the game and KILL KILL KILL! After only one day of playing through, those mad ol' Japanesey hunters have slaughtered over 13 million enemies in total, unlocking one of the prizes of in-game pressies! One player alone has killed over 70,000 enemies on their tod! Hardcore!

Mission Commence!

As this image above shows, the event consists of different missions! The first mission just takes place throughout all three episodes of Phantasy Star Online including the recently made free Episode IV Expansion Pack. The mission is for one week with what i can obviously assume is replaced with a brand new mission the week after, but what will it involve?

Fun times for them Japanese eh?
