Challenge Mode - Stage 4 - General Information

Episode 1 Challenge 4: Areas 14-19   The final of the Caves Challenges! Not the hardest, not the easiest, you’re the highest level in this one (compared to the other) but it’s exceedingly long. By now you should have started getting a grasp on what Cmode is about and this challenge will definitely put your skill and knowledge to the test. Also, this challenge has one of the most variant set of maps (by maps I mean, the amount of monsters per wave and how many monsters). This allows for some of the fastest TA times for a challenge of this length and some of the slowest regular team times (because the regular teams can’t distinguish a bad map, they go through it and it takes a long time). If things are running smoothly (whether you’re TA or not), you may want to try some of the TA tactics because you may have a good map. Lets get this underway shall we?

Recommended Team: 1 or 2 Forces (probably smarter to have 1 if its your first time), a HUcast, a HUcaseal, and a HUmar (if you took only 1 FO).

Estimated Completion Time: Around 35-40 minutes

1) Run out of the room you warp in from and run RIGHT NEXT TO the north or south walls (there are traps in the centre of the room that hone in on you if you get too close). You’ll notice a locked door on the south end of the map, ignore it for now. Exit east. 

2) Kill everything here and the Northwest, Northeast and Southeast doors all open. Have your HUmar or FO go through the SE door to get about 10 boxes. Everybody else, take the NE door.

3) Kill everything and exit north 

4) Kill everything and the east door will open while the north door stays locked. Have 1 person travel east through a hallway (with traps) and an empty room. Continue through the empty room to the south door, enter this new room and hit the switch. When the lone person hits the switch, the party waiting back at the locked north door will be attacked by monsters, ignore them and just go through the newly unlocked north door. Lone person-Grab the boxes in the switch room and catch up with the party (press the start button when running through the room with the monsters so you don’t get slowed down and/or hit) 

5) Kill everything here and the two doors will open, you will now need to split up into two parties (it would be very wise have one android in each party). The party that takes the left (northwest) route will be Party A and Party B goes right (northeast). The members of these parties will be “a” and “b” for Party A and “c” and “d” for Party B. For starters, have “a” and “c” stand on their appropriate floor switch, this raises the pillar that was blocking the way behind both the Northwest and Northeast doors that unlocked. Have “b” and “d” take their appropriate routes.  

6) Forgive me if this starts to sound confusing, this is one of those challenges you need to be doing at the moment for this guide to make much sense. With that said, let me try to do this simultaneously. Member “b”, you run past the pillar that was being held up by “a”. You’re now in a hallway where you can go west or north, go west, bring up your start menu and run to the switch, activate it. Member “d”, when you run past your pillar (being held up by “c”) you can only go one way, to a room full of boxes, break every last box (roughly 15) and collect the items.  

7) Members “a” and “c”, there are big boulders on each side of the room (one near each of you), go to them and stand near them, they wont be there soon… member “b”, go back the hallway and go north this time, at first, ignore all enemies and run directly to the computer console, you don’t need to activate it, just run up to it. This blows up the boulder that “a” is next to revealing a warp, warp through “a” and now you’re rejoined with “b” reforming Party A! Member “d”, after collecting your boxes, continue down your path and into the next room, do the same thing as “b” (ignore enemies and run directly to the computer console), now “c” can warp to you. Both parties, kill the enemies in your rooms. Both parties, exit north from their rooms. 

8) Party A, you grab the boxes and exit west. MAKE SURE TO HIT THE SWITCH BEFORE YOU WARP! Party B, kill all the monsters in your room and exit west. Again, be sure to hit your switch before you warp. 

9) Both warps for both parties lead to the same place. That place being the locked south door from room 1. Hit the switch to unlock the door, ignore the monsters (just spawned), exit east and now you’ll be in room 2.  

10) Take the Northwest door this time. Upon entering another “Y” shaped room, take the Northwest (left) path (you’ll notice many deactivated laser posts, that’s what all those switches were doing). 

11) Kill all the enemies and exit North 

12) This room is a dark room, standing on the switch will turn on the lights. Have anyone with a gun (or your FO) do that (because there are little rocks on the ground that get in your way and make it difficult to fight). Once you’ve killed all the monsters, exit west. 

13) Kill everything and keep moving west. 

14) Kill everything and exit North and warp to Area 15.

4) SEMI PUZZLE! Ok, have one person stand on the floor switch, two people run through the northwest path (where the laser fence deactivated) and have the last person wait near the boulders (once the two people are through the fence, the person holding down the floor pad should join this person). Follow the path, have one person take the left warp (he will be called A) and one take the right warp (he will be called B) DO NOT TAKE THE THIRD WARP
 
5)

A - you warp in behind the boulder that 2 of your team mates are waiting at, hit the switch to blow up the boulder and BEFORE WARPING TO AREA 16 run to and through the north wall to get to some boxes (the two people who were waiting at the boulder and can now get through the boulder to the warp are free to warp ahead).

B - you grab your boxes and hit the switch to release the laser fence and run through the fake wall in front of you, you are now in room 3 so exit north and warp to catch up to the party.

1) Kill everything and exit west.
 
2) Kill everything and exit north
 
3) In this hallway, you can go west or north, have ONE person go west while the other three go north.
 
4) The person who went west will hit a timed switch that releases the Northwest door in the room where the other 3 members are. 3 members, you go that way while the person who hit the switch needs to run like mad to make it time before the door locks again (if it does, just go back and hit the switch again).
 
5) Kill everything and exit north
 
6) Hmmm…3 switches in this room…which to hit…I’ll save you some trouble, it’s the leftmost one. Continue on northward.
 
7) Kill everything, exit west and warp in the green warp.
 
8) Kill everything and exit north and warp to Area 17
 

1) Kill everything and exit east (there are boxes on the north path).
 
2) Kill everything and exit east.
 
3) Kill everything and exit east again.
 
4) HhhhooooooOO boy! This is one complicated puzzle to explain. Ok, lets start simple, there are 8 floor switches in the room and 8 laser fences. There are 4 switches in the big laser square in the middle of the room. The room is split into quadrants (there’s a NE, NW, SW, and SE part of the room and the square alike). First, have on person stand on the Southwest switch (releasing the south laser fence). Have 2 people run the SE part of the room and two people stay back. It’s time for the handy dandy letter system again. A and B ran east through the south laser fence to the SE part of the room. C and D stay back. Once through the fence, A needs to go stand on the southeast floor pad (which releases the south laser ON the square) and let B into the square. B, stand on the Southeast switch that’s IN the square. This releases the East gate so C and D can head to the North-western part of the room. C-stand on the Northwest floor pad which releases the north laser ON the square. D- go into the square and stand on the northwest floor switch IN the square. This releases the east gate which allows both B and A to travel to the Northeast part of the room (B is still in the square and A is outside though). B and A, travel up. B, stand on the Northeast floor pad IN the square, this releases the West gate ONthe square and lets D out to rejoin with C at this point, B, you can exit north out of the square and rejoin A. A- you stand on the Northeast switch of the room which releases the North fence in the room and allows C and D to rejoin with you. Ugh, I’m sure that was confusing as hell but you’ll get it when you try it. In any case, exit East and warp.
 
5) Oh fun, another dark room. Kill everything here and when you do, have 1 person go to the North door (it’ll unlock once the monsters are dead) and the other three go to the Southeast wall, there is a fake wall there that you must go through. Do so, and run to where there are 5 pillars blocking your way. Once the lone person goes through the north door and hits the timed switch that is there, the middle pillar will raise, allowing the three members through. Once through the pillars, have your least important member stand on the floor pad, this raises the other 4 pillars (the other 2 may go on ahead to warp to Area 18). Once the lone member who hit the first switch catches up and crosses the pillars, both you run ahead and warp to Area 18.

1) Man, Area 17 was all puzzles huh? Well 18 is all fighting but there is separation involved so it doesn’t get much less complicated. In any case, kill everything and exit west.
 
2) In this hallway, take the north path.
 
3) Now the separation begins, and make sure you have one android go each way. Standing on the floor pad in the middle of the room drops the laser fence blocking the left (northwest path). Have the 2 people that are going that way cross the laser fence so the person on the floor pad can get off and run to the right (northeast) path. But wait, there’s a laser blocking this way too! Well that’s what Party A (the party on the left) are for. There’s a floor pad on their side that they can stand on to drop the fence for Party B. Both teams, exit the way they have to.
 
4) Ok, back to the simultaneous action again. Party A- you run north into a semi dark room, kill everything and go through the east door to hit a switch and unlock the north door. Party B- You follow the hallway and in the room with many laser fences forming pathways and floor switches, take the southernmost path and only hit the floor switch THAT IS IN THAT PATH! Doing so will unlock the door. Party A exit north, Party B exit east.
 
5) Party A- You’re now in the room you’ll stay in until both parties reunite. Congratulations, you’re done for now! Just start fighting monsters when they spawn (Party B needs to reach a certain point on their path before the monsters spawn). Party B- Kill everything and exit north
 
6) Party B- Kill everything and exit northwest.
 
7) Grab the boxes here and then hit the floor switch to unlock the door, Congrats! you’re all reunited, kind of...
 
8) Now monsters will be in this room, but notice that the parties are still separated by a laser fence. Easily solved. A member from Party B (preferably somebody with a gun or magic), stand on the floor switch, this allows somebody from Party A to go and hit a switch that deactivates the lasers. Now everybody but the person on the switch can get through and fight. Once all the monsters are dead. The north door opens. Person on the floor switch, don’t get off until your 3 team mates are in the hallway to the next room, then you may get off and follow them.
 
9) Kill everything and exit east to Area 19, the boss!

Boss Strategy:

Have all Hunters equips swords (if they have them) and attack the body. Any HU who doesn’t have a sword should attack the head with daggers (or sabers but daggers are better) and use a gun to shoot his head or body when he’s swimming alongside the raft. FOs use Foie on his head and Barta on his body. When he throws bombs on the raft, only take out two bombs closest to the corners you’re near and hide in those corners. If he surrounds a person with 3 bombs, be quick to help them; In most cases if that person isn’t a Hunter, they will die from the bombs. When he is getting ready to shoot his laser beam at you, stick together as a group and run horizontally back and forth across the raft (if you aren’t together, he may be targeting somebody who’s running and hit somebody else who’s running at a different pace. Not smart, just stick together). Keep of the pattern of attack and he should die quickly.

Recommended Team: 2 HUcasts and 2 Fonewearls Good TA Time: 22 minutes or less My personal best: 22:48

There are quite a bit of differences between non-TA and TA games in this challenge. Oh, and, again, never have your FO

1) In Area 14, when you get to room 5, instead of having one member go and get the computer, you may want to try a method called sliding. Sliding is something you do to get through boulders that are placed near walls. To do it, you pretend the wall and the rock are at a 90 degree angle to each other and you position yourself (with the camera behind you) at a 45 degree angle to the rock/wall (in other words, perfectly in the middle so if you drew a line out of your characters back, it would be a perfectly diagonal line). Then you try walking into the rock while shifting the control stick slightly left and right (again and again). Eventually you’ll start to work your way into the rock and be able to warp without hitting the switch. This technique can save a lot of time here, or add a ton of time (if you waste time trying to slide for too long).

2) Unless you want to use your sword, don’t get the boxes that are on the path that party B goes (it takes too long break them all).

Don’t take the right warp to get those boxes. Since you aren’t going right, only have one person go through the laser fence in room 4 and the other 3 people wait at the boulder (still get the boxes behind the fake wall at the warp as they always contain a Brand).

Have a HU get the timed switch.

Master that switch puzzle! You can get it done faster than you would believe if everybody knows what they are doing.   2) Have your FOs run ahead to the pillars, don’t have them get the timed switch. Also feel free to start using scape dolls now (but be careful as you still have a boss to fight).

Have 1 HU and 1 FO go each way when you split up.

HUs should attack ONLY the body with their swords. Don’t even waste time with the head. FOs back them up with Barta or Gifoie (when you barta, line it up so you hit multiple body parts). Be quick about things, and die for TP (FOs obviously lol) when you need it.
