GBA Link Up - Introduction

Many people ask, what is the point in the GBA link up for the Gamecube? The answer is, there is no actual point, it's just used to gain the minor extras found in games which aren't really necessary. You will find that in no game, it will not be absolutely necessary to complete it using the GBA Link Up function.
As for Phantasy Star Online, what is it used for? Well it's used to download small mini-games to your GBA (without the use of a cartridge), which can be found by completed particular Quests. Some quests found Offline and some Online. The main purpose of this guide is to teach you the easy ways of linking your GBA up to your Gamecube and downloading the mini-games available.


GBA Link Up - What do you need?
  • GameBoy Advance or Gameboy Advance SP
  • GameBoy Advance Link Up Cable
  • Nintendo Gamecube
  • Nintendo Broadband Adapter or Modem
  • RJ45 Ethernet Cable or Phone Cable (depending on connection device)
  • Copy of Phantasy Star Online
GBA Link Up - How does it work?

To set up your system, ready to download your Mini-games from your Nintendo Gamecube to GameBoy Advance/SP, follow these simple steps shown below:

Gamecube Linked

1. Firstly connect your GBA Link up Cable to Controller Port 4 on your Gamecube console.
2. Connect the GBA Link up Cable to the EXT port, on your GBA and turn the power on.
3. Insert the Phantasy Star Online disk to your Gamecube and switch the power on.
4. Load up the designated quest (such as Pioneers Warehouse) and use the GBA Download Machine to transfer data between the two.
5. You may now remove the cable from the GBA and roam freely while playing your newly downloaded game.

ote: Once the power on your GBA is switched off, all data received from the transfer is lost. If you wish to recover it once again, repeat the stages as shown above.

GBA Link Up - Games available for download

At the moment, a total of 4 GBA mini-games are available for download. Here is a list of the games available:

Tiny Chao Garden

Born and raise your own Chao for use on Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2 or Sonic Adventure 2: Battle! This game gives you the choice to feed and raise your Chao and play games with it. The games available consist of a different style of Paper, Scissors, Rock and a Match the pair game.

Nights Score Attack

Fly through the rings and collect the blue gems to stack up some serious points! Collect your final grading of how you played at the end of each level.

Puyo Pop

Puyo Pop

Connect a series of coloured circles into a group in this Tetris styled frenzy! Build up the blocks, to stack up the points. Join more and more together to get some serious combos!

Chu Chu Rocket

One of the Dreamcasts most popular games, comes to your GBA screens. Try and race the mice, as fast as you can to the rocket, before the cats can get to them in the crazy puzzler!

GBA Link Up - Where can they be found?

Just follow these simple instructions which will tell you were to find every GBA mini-game available at the moment:

Tiny Chao Garden

  1. First of all, start up the Quest "Fake in Yellow" which can be found Offline
  2. Follow this simple guide to complete the quest
  3. Take the telepipe back up to Pioneer 2 and back down to the Forest. Go back to the room were the waterfall can be found and wander around by the waterfall for a bit. You should be able to hear a song playing in the distance and then a Tiny Chao will pop up.
  4. Talk to the Chao and you will receive the Key Item "Tiny Chao's Garden"
  5. Go back to Pioneer 2 and by the Hunters Guild entrance should be a GBA upload machine. Follow the steps provided above to transfer the data to your GBA.

Nights Score Attack

  1. First of all, start up the Quest "Dream Messenger" which can be found Online under Event Quests
  2. Follow this simple guide to complete the quest
  3. At the end of the quest, Nights will appear and give you the reward, Key Item "Nights Score Attack"
  4. Go to the Guild Counter and finish the quest, receiving your reward at the same time aswell
  5. Next load up the quest "Pioneer Warehouse" which can be found Online under Shop Quests
  6. Once you have started up the quest, take the 2nd door to your left. Enter and talk to the woman who is standing at the desk. Talk to her and she will give you the choice to teleport to the Pioneers Warehouse. Click "Yes" and she will teleport you there.
  7. Inside the warehouse, near the back of the room, there should be a GBA upload machine. Follow the steps shown above to transfer the data to your GBA.

Puyo Pop

  1. Start up the Quest "Galleons Shop" which can be found Online under Shop Quests
  2. Head over to the Medical Centre and you should see a bright shining orb on the floor
  3. Walk over to it and you should pick it up. It will ask you some sort of question, to which you reply with "Yes"
  4. You will now receive Key Item "Puyo Pop"
  5. Go to the Guild Counter and finish the quest
  6. Next load up the quest "Pioneer Warehouse" which can be found Online under Shop Quests and repeat the processes shown above in the "Nights Score Attack" section.

Chu Chu Rocket

  1. This has to be the hardest of all mini-games to acquire, so be prepared
  2. First of all, start up the Quest "Reach for the Dream" which can be found Online under the VR Quests.
  3. Follow this guide to work your way through the quest.
  4. If you received 100% in every room, then you have just gained access to the Chu Chu Rocket mini-game. Continue past the warp back to Pioneer 2, and take the other warp. Head south and activate the computer terminal. You will then be given access to Key Item "Chu Chu Rocket"
  5. Go to the Guild Counter and finish the quest, receiving your reward at the same time aswell
  6. Next load up the quest "Pioneer Warehouse" which can be found Online under Shop Quests and repeat the processes shown above in the "Nights Score Attack" or "Puyo Pop" section.
