-Guide to Luck-

Newb1: wat does luck do?
Newb2: i think it helps u find gud wepons
Newb3: it also helps ur meged kill the enemies
Newb1: kool, thx
Experienced player: No, LCK helps you to get critical hits. That is all it does.
N00b: i must b really lucky because i got a legit parasitic jene flow 2day!
Staff: The PGF is only a hack, stop lying and spamming. All that LCK does it make you get critical hits, as has already been said. Now before this gets any more spammed by all of you n00bs: *locked*

Many a time has that happened on PSO forums, this guide is to clear all of that up.

The Luck stat (LCK) helps your character get critical hits. To find the odds of getting a critical take your LCK and divide it by 4. So someone with 20 LCK has a 5% chance, whereas someone with 65 LCK has a 16.25% chance. Critical hits do 1.5x the damage the attack would otherwise do. You can only get critical hits with the Normal, Heavy, and Special attacks, that means no traps or techniques can get critical hits.

Every character starts out with 10 LCK as the base stat (the one in parentheses) and no characters gain LCK naturally, but the max is 100 for all characters. In order to boost your LCK stat you can do one of the following:

- use a Luck Material, it adds 2 LCK permanently. They are very rare however, so a better way to get them is to do the online quest Towards the Future, and one of the things you can do will get you a Luck Material as a prize. Using a Luck Material goes towards your character’s max material usage of 250 (humans) or 150 (androids/newmans)

- use a frame/armor slot item, that will add to your base stat while it is equipped. There are 2 ---/Luck items: Angel/Luck ( 5) and God/Luck ( 30). There are also 3 ---/Ability items which add to multiple stats. These are the Master/Ability ( 5), Hero/Ability ( 10), and God/Ability ( 20). If you remove the slot item, you loose the bonus.

- use a weapon, they add LCK to the base stat while you are using them. Some weapons will add LCK to your character. Examples of theses weapons are: L&K14 Combat (10), God Hand (5), and Heart of Poumn (15), but there are others. If you remove the weapon, you loose the bonus.

Let’s try an example:
- you have 38 LCK base
- you are equipping the L&K14 Combat
That gives you a total of 48 LCK; divide that by 4 to get a 12% chance of critical hits. Since the Combat does 9 hits, you multiply that by 12% and get that in every 3 part combo, you will average 1.08 critical hits, and 7.92 non-critical hits given that you don’t have any misses. Of course, since it is random, and you can’t get 0.08 of a hit, that number is only an estimate, and you shouldn’t rely on LCK to do damage.

Another example:
- you have 100 LCK base
- you are equipping a God Hand
That means you still have a total of 100 LCK, since you are already maxed out. Divide that by 4 to get a 25% chance of a critical. The God Hand does 3 attacks per combo, so you will average 0.75 critcal attacks per combo if you do not miss.

Enemies also have separate LCK stats (many of which are very high in Ultimate mode), so your LCK will not help them to hurt you, nor will it hinder them.

LCK will NOT:
- make Megid work better
- cause you to find good weapons
- help you find rare enemies
- make techs/traps do more damage
- cause enemies to get critical hits
- help you dodge attacks
- help you win the lottery
- or do anything else that is not critical hits

There is another kind of luck though. This is “Lady Luck is on my side” or “Luck of the Irish” kind of luck. There is no stat for that in PSO. It is something that you, yourself, must have. Luck of the Irish kind of luck will help you to pwn those droprates, slay enemies with Megid, get a hot date, etc. You can not use Luck Materials, slot items, or weapons to boost that though. You can however try: rabbit’s feet, 4-leaf clovers, horseshoes, lucky socks/hats/other clothing, a luck penny (or whatever your currency is), or certain lucky rituals such as praying to the gaming gods or doing a little dance. All of that is just superstition though.

ON A FINAL NOTE: When talking about the PSO Luck stat, please type "LCK," it will stop a lot of confusion. Thank you.
