What's the difference between Ep. I&II, and Ep. III?
In Episode III, as oppose to Episodes I&II, you play through the campaign (not to mention online endeavors) using C.A.R.D. technology. This technology is based on photon, a substance found on the surface of Ragol, and used to forge weapons in the previous episodes.
The C.A.R.D. technology is just how it sounds; using cards. So why is this better than Ep. I&II? It's not...necessarily. The whole game revolves around your perspective. This episode involves deep, engaging, strategic battles using cards (with your defensive, offensive, and guard items built in).
What's the aim of PSO Ep. III?
The aim of Episode III is actually quite similar to Ep. I&II. This is because you are quite free to do whatever you like - in a sense. In Ep. III, there is a more definite campaign than in Ep. I&II. In Ep. III, your home 'base' is The Morgue, in which is based all activities of your alignment, be it Hero or Arkz side.
In addition to these extensive campaigns (including some manga-style sequences), is the Phantasy Star Online trademark online play. Mix it up with players from all corners of the globe and dish out your finest cards in grand battles of tremendous splendour. Have fun!
What are the requirements for PSO Ep. III online play?
Please refer to the Ep. I&II FAQ about a similar question, here.
What is 'Ragol'?
Just as in Ep. I&II, Ragol is the main planet in which all activities in PSO Ep. III are based upon. Its main significance is the recent Arkz or Government activity (based on your current campaign) that is interfering with your side's current plans.
Why does Ep. III use cards instead of weapons/items?
Ep. III uses cards instead of weapons mostly for effect; that is, to change things up a little. The interesting part about the whole change from Ep. I&II's weapons and items to Ep. III's C.A.R.D. technology, is that the items and weapons you know and love from the first episodes, are basically stored inside the cards in Ep. III! Once you use a card in Ep. III, the power of the actual item or weapon is released.
So, what exactly is the basic storyline of Ep. III?
As you already know, Ep. III is SEGA's latest addition to the PSO series. It is a turnbased card battle game which takes place six years after Pioneer 2 reached Ragol's orbit.
The former Principal Tyrell has been replaced by a newcomer of sorts, Dol Grisen. This is because Tyrell was unable to explain the explosion which occurred, destroying Pioneer 1. A new technology recently discovered, called C.A.R.D. makes it possible to trap things such as animals, weapons, and defensive items into cards; which may be used in the heat of battle.
Strategy: The best advice I can give you in playing this explosive, action-packed, thrill ride of a game, is to choose the right cards. Know your opponent, and know just which cards to use and when.
