This is the latest piece of gaming hardware made by Nintendo. Dubbed the "iQUE" Nintendo hope to take the Chinese market by storm, from the pirates...Basically it’s a N64. Yup, the retro console that everyone loved, in pad form. The design of this device is based upon a N64 controller pad shape, hence the games that some with it, Dr. Mario, The ledged of Zelda the Ocarina of time, Super Mario 64, Wave Race & Starfox 64.

iQUE - Overview

iQUE

  • D-pad and Joystick:
The design on the joystick is exactly the same as the N64 version. Which makes a difference to the soft rubbery GC version. It's made out of plastic rather than rubber so it gives more resistance than the Game Cubes. As for the D-pad it doesn't use the traditional cross design like the N64 or CG. Luckily only a few titles for the N64 rely on the D-pad.

  • Cables and leads:
You will get a composite video lead for the PAL TV signal and a 240V two prong adapter that also plugs into your video lead. Also the iQUE boasts a USB port most probably for storing your games on your PC rather than your memory card. As for multiplayer games you will need to buy a linkup cable and a four way hub.

  • Buttons:
They are in exactly the same lay out as the N64 pad. The only difference is that the Z button isn't in the middle at the back off the pad, it's tucked away above the L button for some reason rather than the R button. It will take some getting used to but apparently it works.

  • Memory card:
Just one card with 64 (Hehe how original) Mb of storage is enough to fit some of the biggest N64 games on. To upload a game all you need to do is hop on your bike or donkey and make your way to a special iQUE kiosk. The games cost just over the Chinese equivalent of £3.

iQUE - Games available

Dr. Mario: The newest game available for the iQUE, sadly the least interesting :(. It's a strait conversion of the n64 remake of an NES puzzler but you can't complain as it comes free with your iQUE memory card.

Starfox 64: The first N64 game EVER to use the rumble pack has made a new appearance on the iQUE, unfortunately the iQUE doesn't have the rumble feature.

Super Mario 64: The most original and best ever 3D platformer. Now in Chinese (like every iQUE game) with an all new tweaked title screen. Nintendo gaming perfection all in handy memory card form, genius.

Wave Race 64: Apparently one of the worst N64 conversions on the iQUE, with the wave effects gone clumsy and its slower than the original PAL version =/. If you liked this game once leave it alone now. Its will disappoint you too much.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time: A N64 or a new version on an N64 wouldn't be complete without a copy of the best game of all time EVER MADE! Yup ZOoT has been squeezed into that tiny memory card that can fit into your pocket when the game used to barely fit in one of those N64 cartridges which were just too big.
